Chapter 26 - June, 2019

In our May post we had just finished spending time with Brandon and Allyson in Arizona. Now it was time to sneak in a visit with Rosie in Honolulu before heading to Colorado for our next house sit. She had just gotten a new job there and we simply HAD to go see what she was doing and where she was living. Because we really needed a reason to go to Hawaii? Anyway, here are some of the highlights.

*** Evergreen, CO ***

After Hawaii we headed for a house sit of some very close friends in Evergreen, CO, a charming little town about 30 miles SW of Denver. Evergreen is the perfect place to hang out in the summer because at 7500 feet it stays a nice, comfortable temperature. It's also very close to Mt. Evans which is always a nice drive to the 14,130 foot summit. Along the way you can see...

... a perpetually frozen lake

Charli, with Jack

... mountain goats

How's the weather up here? "Not baaaaaad."

... and sightseeing marmots.

Eventually, after navigating a frightening two-lane road with no guard rails for 10 miles you will reach the parking lot at the top.

But this is not quite the summit. For that you still have to walk up another 150 feet or so.

Meanwhile, back down in the breathable air, Evergreen will give you fields of buffalo and elk on an everyday basis.

So you can see why this is one of our favorite house sits. This area is gorgeous and delivers abundant wildlife every day of the week.

*** Niagara Falls ***

After we finished our sit in Evergreen it was time to head to the Boston area where we were booked for the rest of the summer. But the day before we got there we decided to take a little detour and grab a quick peek at the creek. We didn't have time to go across the border but no matter, the US side is just as stunning, and not nearly as commercial.

And there you have our June in a nutshell. This is what 30 days looks like for us on the map... a total distance from Honolulu to Boston of 5,595 miles with 3,037 of them in the car.

But this is how we roll. We still haven't locked down where we'll spend the winter yet but with Boston queued up for 6 weeks this summer followed by some quality time in Florida I'm sure we'll figure it out. Until next time!
